海洋中充斥無法分解的垃圾，先前才被禁用的塑膠微粒就是一個。不過您知道「菸蒂」也是污染物之一嗎？黎巴嫩環保人士為保護海洋，把丟棄菸蒂蒐集起來，做成衝浪板。
據al-monitor報導，黎巴嫩的吸菸者在全球排名第3名，每人每月平均要抽掉12.4包；這意味著有大量的廢棄菸蒂。該國環保組織「回收黎巴嫩」（Recycle Lebanon）與貝魯特美國大學（American University of Beirut）合作，以12,000根菸頭再加上其他合成物，打造出全球第一個搭載雙人的12公斤衝浪板。
「回收黎巴嫩」創始人·凱迪（Joslin Kehdy）指出，衝浪板除了以12,000根菸頭為主體外，還使用其他材料，如低密度泡沫塑膠、2亳米的軟木片、生態樹脂和玻璃纖維等，因此支撐力相當好，所有的木頭軟質都由再生木材重製。
凱迪表示，1個菸蒂在不到1小時內就能污染9公升的水。「香菸不全然是紙做的，它的濾嘴是由醋酸纖維素（cellulose acetate）這個生物分解非常緩慢的塑膠製成，丟入海洋裡，就變成無法分解的垃圾。」他認為，回收菸蒂不會消除對環境的破壞，減少抽菸量才是根本之道。
菸蒂衝浪板計劃於2016年開始，希望能藉由這項創舉喚醒人們對塑膠毒物及生產者對廢棄品的重視及環境責任。（艾以琳/綜合外電報導）
